Meet the Coaches
Chris Werner is the new Head Coach for Umpqua Community College. Prior to becoming a River Hawk, Chris was a Head Coach at Pocatello Elite for the last 8 years as-well-as the Club's Director. Most recently his 18's National Team received a bid to the Junior Olympic National Championships by winning the Colorado Crossroads National Qualifier, taking 3rd place out of 200 teams at the Las Vegas Presidents Day tournament, and 3rd place in Spokane, WA at the Pacific Northwest National Qualifier. This years team has an impressive 27-2 record at National Qualifiers. While at Pocatello Elite, Chris was responsible for the recruitment of many of his Pocatello Elite players to various Universities including many Division I schools. Chris has experience coaching volleyball camps throughout the Western US, with Collegiate and High School coaches, and is CAP I certified in Beach Volleyball.
Asst. Camp Director: Tawna Ellis who is the Owner and Defensive Training Specialist of Pocatello Elite Volleyball; she has experience playing at the Division I level and has coached all levels for the past 25 years. Her club experience includes coaching two teams to the Junior Olympics and as a high school coach earning a 3rd place finish at the Idaho State Volleyball Championships. Tawna has trained and mentored numerous collegiate coaches, including Umpqua's new coach Chris Werner. Her oldest daughter is a 4 time Idaho all-state player, 3 time all-area player of the year, Gold medalist USA High Performance Libero, and this years Gatorade Idaho player of the year.
